Using the existing concrete slab floor as the flooring ?

I live in Southern California and want to remove my carpet due to allergies and, instead of re-flooring with wood, have recently discovered a newly popular trend is using your concrete slab as the floor. WOW! GREAT! I’ve got that already! It doesn’t really get “cold” here in San Diego…

Have you seen/done this?

Was it hard to do yourself?

What pros or cons can you share with me in your own experience?

Any suggestions?

I did this in Rowlett, Texas for a friend whose children had huge allergies and they had dogs AND cats. It was really easy and oh so economical. We hauled the carpet out ourselves, cleaned really well, used a gallon of the Home Depot recommended cleaner for just this purpose (yes, we had to scrape some carpet glue – nothing impossible), used an acid etch liquid that apparently makes the surface easier to bond to, then I think there was also a primer (It has been 5 years since I thought about it) and finally an opaque floor stain. It has the appearance of paint. This is not the bezillion dollar boutique floor finishing project that is earning so much money for the crews that have made it a fancy science. This is the really budget fix that looks great under area rugs and can be swept and mopped and needs no fussing. Degree of difficulty : I was 55 and fat. She was 40 and fit. There were kids and dogs running around and we slammed out the complete living end of the house, including set up/drying time, in 2 days.
